History
University
Health Care was formed in 1986 to provide a patient base and
clinical setting for the education of medical students from
the Indiana University School of Medicine.
-
In 1993, University Health Care filed with the state of
Indiana to do business as IU Health Care. At that time,
the corporation operated 10 medical facilities doing business
as IU Health Care. These sites were located in Broad Ripple,
Eagle Highlands, Banta Road, Post Road, Avon, North Meridian,
Anderson, Frankfort, Noblesville, and Mooresville. In addition
to these 10 community locations, an IU Health Care office
opened at the Regenstrief Health Center on the Wishard campus.
-
In early 1996, following an agreement with the Health and
Hospital Corporation of Marion County and the Board of Trustees
of Indiana University, the company formally changed its
name from University Health Care, Inc. to Indiana Health
Care, Inc.
-
Under terms of the participation agreement enacted in early
1996, Indiana Health Care, Inc. manages and operates the
primary care facilities of Wishard Health Services. These
primary care facilities include eight Wishard Community
Health Centers (Blackburn, Cottage Corner, Forest Manor,
North Arlington, Westside, Grassy Creek, and two locations
in the Primary Care Center on the Wishard Campus).
-
In 1997, Indiana Health Care, Inc. formally changed its name to IU Health,
Inc., doing business as IU Medical Group-Primary Care.
-
In addition, IU Medical Group has contracted with various
health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and insurers to
provide health care services.
-
Specialty and institutional care is contracted out to various
groups that practice specialty care medicine within the
Indiana University School of Medicine (IU Medical Group
- Specialty Care).
-
IU Medical Group - Primary Care also fully owns IU
Health Plan, Inc., a company that holds TPA and HMO
licenses in the state of Indiana.
-
The company offers care targeted at commercial, Medicaid,
